Anti Bullying Week

Anti-Bullying Week happens in schools across England each November. This year’s Anti-Bullying Week has the theme Change Starts With Us and is happening from Monday 11th November – Friday 15th November 2019.
Small change. Big difference.
Whether it is verbal, physical, online or in-person, bullying has a significant impact on a child’s life well in to adulthood. By making small, simple changes, we can break this cycle and create a safe environment for everyone. Because together, we can challenge bullying. Change starts with a conversation. It starts with checking in. It starts with working together.

We will also be having an odd socks day on Tuesday 12th November 2019, come to school in odd socks to celebrate what makes us all unique!

Supervision Outside

Just a reminder that we supervise children in Breakfast Club from 8.00am and out on the yard from 8.40am. Please make sure you have a conversation with your child about being in the right place to ensure they stay safe. We have had children unsupervised on the yards quite early before school over the last week and we wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of safe places for your child to be. We will also remind children in assembly.

Free Dinner Day

Free Dinner Day!
It’s free dinner day again on Thursday 3rd October. All children can try a hot meal, jacket potato with a range of fillings, or have a pick and mix packed lunch. The best thing is for one day only it won’t cost you a penny – we would like every child to have a dinner in school for free!
On this day there will be a choice of:
Hot Dinner Jacket potato Pick ‘n’ Mix
Spaghetti bolognese
Lamb or chickpea curry (V) with rice and naan bread

Choice of pudding or fruit/yoghurt With a filling of:
Cheese or Cottage cheese
Baked Beans
Coleslaw Pasta pots
Sandwiches and wraps
Mini ploughman’s lunch
Choice of pudding or fruit/yoghurt
So if your child usually has a packed lunch from home why not let them try one of our meals for free on this day – all children need to do is let their teacher know on Thursday morning that they are having a school meal.

Welcome Back

Well here we are at the beginning of our 12th year at WCM.
We welcome everyone back to Watercliffe Meadow after the long summer holidays. We would also like to welcome any new families to the school, if there is anything you need to know, just ask, staff will always be happy to help.
It has been so lovely in school over the last few days. Having all the children back and listening to the fantastic times they have shared with families and friends has been a delight. We have had quite a number of the Summer Reading challenges back. If you have not yet completed it you have until next Friday; 30 reads earns you a Reading Robot badge!
We want to make WCM the best place possible for your children to attend but we can only do that with your help and support. If you think we are doing something wrong, come and see us with a better idea. Together we can sort anything! Please remember if you wish to see your child’s class teacher to discuss any issues, please call to the office and a member of the team will make an appointment.

The End of another year…

Here we are at the end of another school year that has seen so many memories, lots of learning and endless fun and laughter. It has been a pleasure to share in your children’s learning journey this year. There are always ups and downs but also some incredible moments along the way!
It is with a tear in our eyes that we say good-bye to our wonderful Y6 children as they move on to comprehensive school in September. We wish them every success in the next part of their journey. We ask one thing of you Year 6 children…remember all we have ever said about Golden Rules and life skills and most of all remember the ‘World Is Yours’ and you can be who you want to be!
We would like to say an enormous well done to the cast and choir who joined together to make such a memorable performance of Aladdin. Under the skilful guidance of Miss Heap, the children performed their hearts out. It was a real team effort from the actors and the back stage team. Some of our children definitely need to make sure they join a drama group when they get to secondary school. It is so rewarding watching the children perform and we are all very proud of them. A big thank you to all the staff who played a part in making the performance possible, to Hillsborough College for hosting us and to all the families who came along to watch.


As some of you may know we have a delivery from Fairshare every Wednesday afternoon in school. From this delivery we take things out that can be used for the children in school or on residentials and the rest we make available for a small donation.

We are going to create a small number of food parcels each week for families who need them. If you would benefit from a parcel please call in and ask to speak to Claire Bradley or Jayne Senior and they will be allocated on a similar basis to how the food bank works. Any remaining food will still be in reception at the end of the day.

Summer Carnival

Our Summer Carnival this year will be on Wednesday 17th July 2.00pm – 4.00pm. We have been blessed with lovely weather in the past and we have our fingers crossed again for this year. As with most things we do, this event will only be successful with the help and support of our community.
How You Can Help:
• If you are having a clear out, please donate any toys, games or books for us to sell on our Nearly New Toy Stall. These must be in excellent condition – no jumble please! Bring to school from Monday 8th July.
• Cakes and buns – please do some baking for us to sell on our Cake Stall. Bring to school on the morning of the Carnival.
• We also need prizes for our raffle and tombola stall. If you have any unwanted gifts, or non-perishable food items, tins etc. bring these to school from Monday 8th July.
• We do need helpers on the day from 12 noon to prepare and set up, and to help with stalls. If you can spare some time to help us on the day, please see Liz Graham in the School Office.
